Celebrated every year 47 days before Easter, this year, March 5 pays an ode to the fluffy pancake and its many versions.
Pancake Day, also known as Shrove Tuesday in Christianity, is a day of feasting before the 40-day fasting period, in the run-up to Easter. Shrove derives from ‘shrive’, which means free oneself from all sins and guilt before the start of Lent, which begins on the following day, Ash Wednesday. The day is also known as Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras in French. On this day it was customary to cook up a feast using any remaining rich foods—that’s how the tradition of whipping up pancakes as an ingenious way to use up rich foods, such as eggs and sugar, came about.
Historically, ancient Greeks and Romans used wheat flour, olive oil, honey, and buttermilk to create the rudimentary pancake. Pancake recipe has evolved over the years, here is our recipe for a fool-proof pancake.
How To Make a Pancake
